Detroit in Michigan, with a population of about 0.67 million, is another American city that has an extremely high crime rate. According to FBI data, the total crime rate in the city was 2056.67 per 100,000 people in 2017. Murder and non-negligent murder accounted for 39.80, rape 103.91, robbery 393.42 and aggravated crime 1519.55 per 100,000 people.


Detroit is the largest of Michigan and a hub of the automobile industry. The high rate of crime in Detroit has often been a subject of serious contemplation in the police administration as well as in the government. However, the crime rate has never dropped in the city over the years, making it one of America’s most dangerous cities.

Government agencies tried many different things to control the crime rate but only with little success. The high rate of rape and robbery incidents in the city shows that people are not afraid of taking the law in their hands. Even the elite police administration is no deterrence.


A better understanding of the crime trends can help develop more effective policy and action plan to reduce the crime rate and increase the sense of safety and security among the residents and visitors to the city.
