The economy of Luxembourg is mostly built upon the banking, and industrial sectors. Luxembourg is an extremely wealthy nation, with the second-largest per capita GDP in the world, behind only Qatar. Luxembourg is primarily a diverse industrialized economy, as opposed to the vast oil industry of Qatar. The economic prosperity in Luxembourg is very rare compared to other industrialized democracies.


Banking is the largest sector in the Luxembourg economy. As of 2017, it was ranked the 18th most competitive financial center in the world. As well as the third most competitive in Europe, behind only London and Zurich. More than 9,000 holding companies find their home in Luxembourg. Including the European Investment Bank.
